reframing
Last week I went on a walk with a friend I hadn't seen in years. I was telling her something I may have mentioned to you before. My community is vanishing. My friends are packing up and moving away. It's not because of me ( I swear), it's because of Covid. In fact, I have another good friend who busted a move last weekend π.
I'm happy for everyone leaving, even if it makes me want to ugly cry. It sucks to feel like you're being left behind.
I was listening to a mindset coach the other day. She was talking about how thoughts create feelings. And, reframing your thoughts can make you feel better.
I decided to use the technique to reframe my thoughts in this scenario. Instead of thinking that my community is vanishing and it sucks to be left behind...I decided to reframe it and think...my community is still here and evolving. I have lots of friends in my hood and beyond. I just need to make more of an effort to reach out to them.
Wow, I felt so much better and less alone with this one reframing.
βSo, if you haven't heard from me in a while- look out I'm coming for ya!
βAnd, if you haven't listened to the latest episode of my podcast, Talking Smack 415, you need to. My co host Jamie the Great shares a super personal story about what it's like to be a sister of an addict. And, if you've ever wanted to know what Jamie means in the intro when she says, "I have three slash four boys, I'll tell you about it someday." Then today's your lucky day. Jamie talks about what it's like to raise her nephew with her boys.
β
Of course, we have LOLs. We talk smack about:
a trip to the ER at the Jersey Shore
how Jamie taught me to smoke
how we partied in NOLA.
β
In all seriousness, please reach out to talkingsmack415@gmail.com if you have a relative or you yourself are struggling with addiction and need support. Jamie can help.β
Here's a thought ( that doesn't need reframing) please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. β

βEmial me, debbie@debbiemink.com and LMK if you have a thought you need help reframing.
